Often called 'the sacrificial test', this photo helps demonstrate the mechanical testing processes involved in the supply of critical parts. Many specifications require testing to be carried out on a representative product to ensure raw material integrity. This is in contrast to the manufacture of a separately forged block known as the 'qualification test coupon'.
There has been significant changes in the standards/specifications over the past 20 years with materials facing much more scrutiny. A good example of this would be API 6A CRA, which is now standard across the Oil & Gas industry for common Nickel Alloy grades such as Alloy 718.
